iPhone and iPad users who enjoy Google services can rejoice today. An update for Google Sync brings features to iOS devices that were missing in previous versions. The Google experience and iPhone has always been decent, especially in the Gmail department. Let’s take a look at some of the new features…
- Search all your emails in Gmail, not just the emails stored locally by the iOS mail app.
- Accept, decline or edit calendar events from the iOS calendar app.
- Send email from the address you want.
The last bullet is a huge feature. I have a couple of email address that point to one Gmail account. Usually I like keeping them seperate but in some cases I want to send an email from a different address. That’s where this feature comes in. Google says,
We recognize that some of you manage multiple email addresses from a single Gmail account.Gmail’s “Send Mail as†feature lets you send messages with another email address listed as the sender instead of your Gmail address, e.g. firstname.lastname@example.org instead of email@example.com. Now the iOS mail app will respect these settings.
Good looking out Google! It’s little details like these that makes Gmail so useful.
