A very thorough camera comparison between the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia N8

Steve Litchfield from All About Windows Phone is at it again. Last month we pointed you to his Nokia Lumia 920 vs. Nokia 808 PureView camera shootout, and this time around he pits the Nokia Lumia 920 against the older (but still lethal) Nokia N8. For those of you who haven’t followed Nokia or mobile camera tech — the Nokia N8 will probably take better photos than your phone, and it’s at least 3 2 years old (thanks for info Jen). The Nokia 808 PureView was its successor and Nokia would love for you to call the Lumia 920 the new camera king.

Steve first shows the original photo taken by the Nokia Lumia 920 before cropping both versions and placing them side by side, as shown below.

(N8 left, 920 right)

Both photos are very clear but the hue is different. According to Steve, the colors on the 920 are correct.

Check out these low-light comparisons…

The flash was fired, and remember the N8 has xenon flash while the 920 has dual-LED. The difference is noticeable as the N8 shows more detail up close and doesn’t look as distorted. It’s interesting how much light was pulled in with the 920 (see the tap handles in the background).

Small fiddly note: The N8 was not released nearly 3 years ago, but in Oct 2010, so 2 years and barely 2 months.

Doh! That’s that big fiddly note. Thanks Jen. Dang I feel like it’s been much longer. When was it announced?

    Hi Mike,

It was forced announcement in April 2010 by Eldar when he got the info about the N8 and leaked on his site. That then caused the whole brouhaha where Nokians where blogging and Tweeting about how they wanted their company to remain open not closed.

Thus, who knows when it would have been announced (probably June 2010?). From the folks I talked to they were very discouraged by the leak and the then rush to market in Oct 2010.

Oh I remember that. You’re bringing back memories I’d rather not remember LOL.

I think that was also the time when Nokia started going through some major leadership changes!

    It’s a good price but I don’t think I’d buy a phone that old.
