One of the apps/features that I mentioned in my Missing apps in WP8 ecosystem rant a few weeks ago was DLNA functionality that we’ve come to love on our old Nokia phones.
Today marks the introduction of DLNA wireless sharing to the Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 lineup with Nokia Play To. The list of devices this release relates to includes:
- Nokia Lumia 920, 820, 822, 810, 620.
Description from Nokia:
With Play To you can share your photos, videos and music from your Nokia Lumia WP8 phone to your DLNA-capable devices over your WLAN network. This could be that new big screen TV you have or maybe just your Windows laptop and/or desktop or XBox. Play To makes sharing easy.
I’ve yet to test this app on my Nokia Lumia 920 because I’m having issues with my LG Smart TV and DLNA, but others are reporting that it’s working without issue. Keep in mind this is app is in testing phase, hence it being available at Nokia Beta Labs.
Download Play To
This application is found in the Windows Phone Store, but right now it won’t show up in the search. You have to download it from a direct link found at Nokia Beta Labs.
Stay tuned for my experience with this application and be sure to follow me on Twitter for my real-time thoughts.
Have you tried Nokia Play To on your Nokia Lumia 920 yet?
Big thanks to @kenosando for the heads up!
