Accessory Review: Barely There iPhone Case by Case-Mate

by Mike Macias 05.05.2012
iphone case-mate review

I’ll start off my review of the Case-Mate Barely There case for the iPhone 4 and 4S by disclosing that I typically stay away from covering up my phone with any type of case, cover, or protection. I’m one of those weird purists who enjoy using the phone and feeling it as it was originally intended — without added size, weight, and texture. But this is where this very thin iPhone case succeeds. Just like it’s name, it seems to be barely there. And we all know the build quality issues that plague the iPhone. A short drop to the floor potentially cracks the phone on the front and/or back. And once that happens your phone looks terrible. If it’s a Nokia or Samsung phone you’ll probably just get away with a .....

Price Drop: 32GB microSDHC class 10 memory card — $47.99

by Mike Macias 11.06.2011
Lexar 32GB class 10 microSDHC review

Last weekend I told you about a SanDisk 32GB microSD card deal at Amazon for $37 bucks… but that was a class 4. This time around a class 10 microSDHC card made by Lexar is going for $47.99 at TigerDirect and Amazon.com. With Black Friday approaching fast, these deals will be popping up constantly at various retailers.   The Lexar card also comes with a card reader for fast file transfers onto your computer. While Lexar isn’t as popular as SanDisk, it’s still a reputable brand and has some great reviews. This is great for devices with expandable memory such as the Samsung Galaxy S2, Nokia N8, and HTC EVO 3D. Click here to see the deal at Amazon. This was an article from our new Weekend Deals feature!

Thumbnail image for Official Samsung Galaxy S2 Micro USB to USB Converter for USB on-the-go now available

Most Samsung Galaxy S II owners haven’t realized that their device has USB on-the-go (OTG) functionality. This feature allows you to connect external drives to your SGS2 so you can view, play, and transfer files between the phone and storage device. Sometimes you can even connect a mouse, keyboard, or camera. Using it to connect a digital camera is especially cool. You can snap some photos then transfer it to your phone to share with your friends when you’re out and about. Samsung has released a genuine Micro USB to USB Converter for the Galaxy S2 and it’s available at Mobile Fun right now.

Video: A quick look at the Nokia N9 original soft cover (CC-1020) that ships in the box

Video: A quick look at the Nokia N9 original soft cover (CC-1020) that ships in the box

The Nokia N9 ships with a very nice cover that fits perfectly on the device. It’s made of a soft plastic (or rubber) material that adds good protection and grip. It’s not too sticky or gummy like you would find on some soft gel cases. To top things off soft cover CC-1020 for the N9 does not add much bulk or significantly alter the appeal of the phone. Various colors of the CC-1020 are starting to pop up on accessory websites and I’ll link those at the end of the article in-case you’re interested in changing the color of your Nokia N9. I created this hands-on video of the CC-1020 cover for the N9 to give you guys an idea of how it looks. I also remove the cover so .....

Best deal: Price of 32 GB microSDHC card drops to $37 bucks

We just posted about the Samsung Galaxy S2 deal that we came across and here’s another deal you can’t pass up. Right now you can pick up a SanDisk 32GB microSDHC Memory Card for $37 big ones over at Amazon. This is a great deal considering I purchased the same card (class 4) on eBay for $50. I’ve been using this card for about 4 months on my Nokia N8 and it works great. I’ve tested the Class 4 with videos as well and haven’t noticed any issues. Some say it creates an occasional studder when shooting a video but to avoid any problems like that I save my files like this: MP3s go on the SD card. Photos go on the SD card. Video footage goes on the inbuilt .....

When it comes to protection nothing is more important than arming your mobile device with something that retains the overall feel of the while providing excellent protection from drops, spills, or everyday wear and tear. With the Samsung Galaxy S2 you are challenged due to its immensely thin profile and minimalistic good looks to find a case that will be more than suitable. Luckily, Case-Mate has produced a solution that will provide satisfaction in both realms. This SGS2 case allows you to retain the sleek profile of the SGS2 without compromising protection. Let’s discover why Case-Mate has created the best protective casing that still manages to retain the shape and feel of the Samsung Galaxy S2.

Steinheil Ultra Clear screen protector review

by Timi Cantisano 08.30.2011
Thumbnail image for Steinheil Ultra Clear screen protector review

Often when purchasing a new mobile device one of the first accessories I seem to purchase is a screen protector. Although my past two devices were blessed with Corning’s Gorilla Glass I still found it necessary to protect it from those fine hairline scratches that for some reason always manage to appear mysteriously. I usually try to stick to a couple brands that I have been using for a couple years and this time was no different. Upon purchasing my Samsung Galaxy S2 I also purchased a screen protector from Clarivue. While I love the quality of the protector I really didn’t like the fit. The size of the protector was a tad bit too small, the cut outs were not flush and the bottom portion had two tabs that .....

I purchased a SanDisk 32GB microSD memory card for my N8, $37

by Mike Macias 07.22.2011
Thumbnail image for I purchased a SanDisk 32GB microSD memory card for my N8, $37

I’ve been waiting for the 32GB microSDHC cards to drop in price and finally they are in a range that I’m ok with. My Nokia N8 already has 16GB built-in and I have a 16GB microSD card to go along with it. It’s nearly at full capacity with all the photos and video I’ve taken recently. My music library accounts for about 20GB by itself. I use my smartphone as the music source in the car so it’s necessary to have all my tunes with me. Right now I’m reviewing the Nokia E6 (see my recent E6 camera samples article) and it does have 8GB built in for mass storage but obviously that’s not enough. My brother recently picked up a 32GB card for his HTC EVO so now I’m .....

Official docking station for HTC EVO 3D lets you sync, charge, and output HDMI

I’m usually not a huge fan of accessories made for just one device but a multi-featured docking station is something that draws my attention. The HTC EVO 3D will be shipping anytime now and an official docking station for this device has been released. With it you can charge, sync, and output to an HD monitor via HDMI.
