The Kindle Fire by Amazon hasn’t even been out for a month and we’re already talking about a firmware update. Depending on the way you look at it this could be bad news or good news. Good news because it shows Amazon wants to stay on top of things and make sure the Fire is running at its best possible performance. Bad because it’s so soon and it could point to some serious flaws, as mentioned in many reviews.

Amazon has been on a roll lately with their streaming video segment bringing in some big players. FOX, CBS, NBC, and PBS have recently launched content on Amazon Video, and now we have another TV giant in the game. Disney-ABC have now joined the game to bring over 13,000 TV shows and movies including Lost, Grey’s Anatomy, Felicity, X-Men Evolution, and more. Amazon has positioned itself as a direct competitor to Netflix at a time when Netflix is struggling.

A tablet made by Amazon has been heavily speculated for the past year, and this morning it’s finally been made official. It’s called the Kindle Fire, and Amazon will launch it at $199. Bloomberg reports that the Amazon tablet will have a 7-inch display and run Google’s Android operating system. Not to mention a very nice Kindle reader, which of course is one of the center points of the device. Smartphones are not the only things with apps nowadays. Oh no… the simple, read-only Amazon Kindle has a few tools besides a web browser that can make the device more useful. The Kindle is an interesting device in a sense that it’s not just for tech geeks like myself. Many Kindle users don’t own a smartphone and might find some standard smartphone applications useful on their Kindle. I’m still unsure on whether or not Kindle apps are necessary but understand the point that many non-tech folks might enjoy the simplicity they bring. I would love to see the sales figures on Kindle apps. I’m surprised at how many are available at Amazon.com. A handful of Kindle apps have popped up at The Kindle Store that can assist you in everyday .....
