Smartphones are not the only things with apps nowadays. Oh no… the simple, read-only Amazon Kindle has a few tools besides a web browser that can make the device more useful. The Kindle is an interesting device in a sense that it’s not just for tech geeks like myself. Many Kindle users don’t own a smartphone and might find some standard smartphone applications useful on their Kindle. I’m still unsure on whether or not Kindle apps are necessary but understand the point that many non-tech folks might enjoy the simplicity they bring. I would love to see the sales figures on Kindle apps. I’m surprised at how many are available at Amazon.com. A handful of Kindle apps have popped up at The Kindle Store that can assist you in everyday .....

Any application which is called “Cross Platform” usually means that there are multiple versions of the same application running on numerous platforms. This week Amazon launched its newest of the many services they are coming out with called Amazon Cloud Drive. This new service is a great way of storing your media and lets you access it anywhere just by signing in to your Amazon account! This new service comes with Cloud Player which lets you play your music in two ways: Web and Android. Amazon pushed an update to the Android Market and Amazon AppStore for the Amazon MP3 app which lets you access your cloud from your Android device and play your music via the Cloud Player. Amazon Cloud Drive gives you 5gb of free storage to start off  but allows you to purchase extra storage if need be.

A few weeks ago my wife’s Amazon Kindle (latest generation) got some new software. I finally got around to updating it tonight and boy was it a breeze. Or at least as easy as it can possibly get without having an over-the-air option. Normally the Kindle will update itself when you perform a sync but for some reason this one didn’t update on its own. I followed the official Amazon Kindle software update instructions but I’d also like to give you these instructions with my personal experience thrown in. Again – this guide is only if your Kindle didn’t update automatically.

I got my wife the Amazon Kindle 3 for Christmas this year and she absolutely loves it so far. It’s the perfect device for book lovers and a great replacement for magazines and newspapers. She’s already subscribed to a few magazines and downloaded the newest book in the Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) series. I’ve spend a little bit of time with it and love the simplicity and how everything ‘just works’. Save my thoughts on it for another article. Today I was happy to hear the news that you can now lend your purchased books to another Kindle user.
