Report: iPhone 5 coming to Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T this fall

It seems every week a new development in the mobile industry dominates tech news headlines. Today the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple will release the iPhone 5 on 3 major US carriers in mid-October. AT&T, Verizon, and surprise player Sprint are on the list to carry the iPhone 5. It comes as a surprise to me that Sprint is included right off the bat but I see it as a good thing for the entire industry. This news comes just after Reuters reported this morning that the iPhone 5 will be available by the end of September.

Apple has dominated the smartphone market in the US for a long time now but somehow still manage to shock us every year with sales numbers. The third quarter of 2011 wasn’t any different. Despite Google’s Android making huge gains in marketshare, the iPhone has managed to keep selling at a record pace. Apple reported revenue of $28.57 billion and a profit of $7.31 billion dollars. How big can Apple get?

If you’ve been hesitant to jump on the smartphone bandwagon because of the price of these devices well you might want to check out this deal. New AT&T customers or those up for contract renewal can get a refurbished iPhone 3GS for $9 – while supplies last. This is one of the hottest deals I’ve seen for any iPhone. You won’t be getting the latest iPhone 4 but the iPhone 3GS no slouch when it comes to speed and usability. The software between both devices is almost identical but you’ll be lacking a few things in the hardware department.

iPad2: An indication of what to expect on the next-gen iPhone?

Its rare that The Mobile Fanatics will dive into rumor territory but with the release of the iPad2 I felt that this hardware platform would give us the best insight of what to expect from Apple when the new iPhone is released this summer. Let’s begin with the obvious: A5 Dual-core processor Video Mirroring (HDMI) Larger internal storage up to 64gb Slimmer Simultaneous release on ATT and Verizon Available in white on launch Now for the more trickier things like will they release the iPhone in the same body design? The last couple generations of the iPhone changed slightly but the overall design/theme remained the same. Since this is the first iteration of the current design it’s possible that Apple will stay with the design/theme but just reduce the bulk .....

Once again I’m late to talking about the latest mobile news from Apple. It could be one of two things – A. Work (my day job) is always chaos when they announce something or B. I’m just not that interested. Maybe a little both? Whichever it is I still feel the need to talk about the iPad 2 here at The Mobile Fanatics since it’s such a huge impact on the tablet industry. It’s not that the iPad specifically doesn’t interest me, it’s that tablets haven’t blown me away just yet. I still don’t find them useful enough to justify spending $500 dollars – or even worse $800. Really Motorola? But why sway away from the topic at hand? I’ll save my “are tablets worth it” article for another day.

Hello Mobile Fanatics! If you’re like myself you tend to rely on some type of navigation / mapping software when you adventure into a location unknown. If you’re fortunate the device you own might come pre-installed with a navigation software, if not you most likely have downloaded Google Maps, Amaze, or another alternative.
