LG has released a follow-up to last years qwerty Android device (Q) with the release of the Q2. The Q2 will feature a dual-core Tegra 2 1.2GHz processor, 4″ IPS display, 1GB RAM, and a 5MP auto-focus camera. In a world where thin slate devices have taken over thanks to better touch screen technology its refreshing to see LG providing options for those who may not want a touchscreen typing interface. They execute this perfectly by incorporating a physical qwerty keyboard in a thin 12.3mm device. The Q2 will run the latest Android 2.3 and will come in Black and White (which will release at a later date).

It looks like Capcom is ready to bring its largest fighting franchise to Android handsets later this year with the release of Street Fighter 4. This is a huge step forward for gaming franchises on Android, often shunned due to poor security and heavy piracy on the Android platform. But don’t expect to see this on all Android handsets as LG has secured an exclusive with the title for 3 months which will be available via LG’s marketplace, LG World. This title release will coincide with a new handset that will be released by LG with a new HD display that will take full advantage of HD content. LG’s new handset and Street Fighter 4 will be available in Q4 /2011. Source: KoreaNewsWire

Big entertainment with the T-Mobile G2x 4G by LG

With mobile devices becoming more powerful with each iteration and content becoming increasingly important in our daily lives it was only a matter of time before we would come to a cross road where content sharing would become a requirement. Although DLNA wireless media sharing has been around for a couple years its only recently that we see the addition of HDMI ports on mobile phones to allow output to HDMI devices. Whether its a television, monitor , or projector this HDMI output capability is one that can be used for excellent personal and business use with the only caveat being the cable. The tethered experience may feel awkward and archaic compared to our usual wireless experience but it’s a small price to pay for quality visual and audio.

Lets find out.

For those interested in purchasing the LG G2X I thought I would make a gallery comparing the LG G2X, Samsung Omnia7 and Vibrant (Galaxy S). Although each device houses a 4″ display, the G2X is longer compared to the others, but similar in thickness. Going from thinnest to thickest Vibrant/Galaxy S (9.9mm), G2X (10.2mm), Omnia7 (11mm).

Unlocked LG G2X doesn’t support AT&T 3G?

Its been a couple days since the launch of the much hyped LG G2X from T-Mobile while initial reviews stated that the phone had support for ATT 3G (850/1900 bands) it seems that many early adopters unlocking the handset via T-Mobile and 3rd party sites are finding that ATT 3G is unavailable, only being left with 2G. While its unclear whether this is due to a baseband lockout or unavailable hardware support, we have yet to hear official word from either LG or T-Mobile. Many are looking to the community for a solution in hopes that a new ROM for the device will unlock the needed baseband. For those interested XDA-forums has a lively post regarding the 3G lockout issue. As for myself I am still waiting for an unlock .....

This week has started off with a plethora of releases from T-Mobile USA with the release of the Sidekick 4G, LG G2X, and the LG G-Slate. Luckily, I was able to get my hands on the LG G2X aka Optimus2x, the first Tegra2 powered device to hit the market. While the device is locked and I still have yet to test its various features I though Id give some first impressions of the device after fondling it for a couple hours.

Mobile World Congress Day 2 Round Up: LG

Thumbnail image for Mobile World Congress Day 2 Round Up: LG

In January at CES LG was one of the first to introduce a dual-core mobile phone to the world. The Optimus 2x had an amazing feature set that seemed to be the best of what LG had to offer. Almost a month later, LG is at it again introducing the worlds first 3D mobile device that shoots 3D content. So how does the Optimus 3D perform all these tasks? With something called the “tri-dual” configuration which combines dual-core, dual-channel, and dual-memory. By doing this they are able to provide a substantial difference in processing power compared to standard dual-core mobile processor. The handset will shoot in full 1080p (2D) and 720p (3D) using its 5MP camera, and naturally playback in 3D on the 4.3″ display. Expect the Optimus 3D in .....
