Nokia N9: How to add favorite contacts to app menu shortcuts

One of the biggest issues I had with the Nokia N9 was the lack of contact shortcuts. Since the N9 doesn’t have a standard homescreen setup like Symbian and Android, there was really no place in the OS to put favorite contacts besides at the top of the contacts app. I’ve suggested to Nokia that they allow favorite contacts within the quick launcher that pops up when you slide from the button for 2 seconds, but it never happened. Luckily a developer has created another solution that lets you add a favorite contact shortcut to the menu like it’s an app icon. The application for the Nokia N9 is called contactLaunch.

Nokia N9 hands-on video tour by Digital Life

It looks like the folks over at Digital Life have gotten their hands on a Nokia N9 and have a full video showing the N9 in all its glory. Although the audio is in Greek its hard not to appreciate the beauty of the N9 and how well the Meego OS seems to run on the device. The tour of the device begins with the power up which has a pulsing Nokia logo, a quick run through of the hardware, testing video in the browser (which seems to hang a bit), and a brief tour of the applications. Seeing how smooth the N9 is boggles the mind knowing that its running on a 1GHz processor. Official dates haven’t been announced but if your region is carrying the Nokia N9 sign .....

Nokia N9 preorder page shows up at Expansys USA and some UK retailers

Nokia N950 official; view specification differences from N9

The Nokia N950 has been made official. It’s meant to be a phone for developers and probably won’t be released to the public. Surely it will get out and you’ll find the N950 on Ebay and Craiglist – and I’m sure the price will be steep. On a Nokia developer page some N950 specs have been posted to compare it to the Nokia N9. Nokia N9 vs. N950 Mark from The Nokia Blog came across this list on the developer pages… Nokia N950 phone uses same hardware components as the Nokia N9 phone with the following exceptions: N950 is physically larger and is made out of aluminum, whereas N9 has a polycarbonate unibody. N950 has a physical slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The N9 is a touchscreen -only device. N950 has a 4” .....

Nokia N9 press photos leaked, announcement coming tonight

Nokia is holding an event in Singapore called CommunicAsia 2011 where they are said to be announcing new devices. The event kicks off tonight at 6pm pacific time and we’ll be doing our best to follow the event and keep you updated. It’s being heavily reported that the Nokia N9 will be the center of attention and one of Nokia’s biggest device announcements since the Nokia N8. MeeGo Conference in San Fransisco starts toady. Watch live!

MeeGo Conference kicks off this morning in San Fransisco. For many mobile-tech geeks this is one of the most highly anticipated events so far in 2011. I’ve been looking forward to this for awhile, hoping to see MeeGo become a relevant player in the mobile industry. With a lot of competition from Android, iOS, Windows Phone 7, WebOS, and even Symbian, it will be a challenge for MeeGo to go mainstream. I at least hope it will quickly become a fan favorite amongst the most die-hard mobile fanatics and Linux users. We were registered to attend the MeeGo Conference but couldn’t make it up the coast due to some scheduling conflicts between our editors. Is this the long awaited Nokia N9? Video and screenshots inside

While the existence of the Nokia N9 has been around since its first leaked debut mid last year, not much news has come from Nokia regarding the device since Microsoft’s partnership with Nokia. Missing many debut opportunities (Nokia World 2010, Meego Conference 2010 Dublin) it was almost certain that the Meego device was shelved. Surprisingly there was a hint of resurgence last week when an FCC filing revealed the device as the N950. Finally that brings us to today with a leaked video posted by pocketnow which shows the device and OS in action. While this isn’t official (meaning officially released or confirmed by Nokia) it does look authentic. Although the details are scarce its clear that many details can be seen in the video such as a Carl Zeiss .....

Nokia N9 MeeGo device hits FCC, whispers of N950 heard across the web

Amidst all the Android news the past few days we’ve seen a few rumors surfacing about a new Nokia device powered by MeeGo. The two rumors I caught wind of today mention specifically the N9 and N950. The Nokia N9 has appeared on the FCC and the N950 is mentioned in a tweet by a film company probably working on some commercials for Nokia.

Nokia: Push notifications for 3rd party applications coming, API available for developers

The guys over at Forum Nokia posted an article today introducing their new Notifications API for 3rd party applications on the Symbian & MeeGo platforms. It’s now available as a plug-in for the Nokia Qt SDK. This is great news for Nokia developers and Nokia owners alike. There is now a simple and streamlined way for devs to implement real push notifications in their apps without having to do too much of the leg work on their own. This will also help with memory efficiency and battery life on Nokia smartphones.
