by Mike Macias 12.14.2011
White Droid Razr

Releasing a phone in white seems to be a hot trend right now. Nokia is doing it with the white N9, Samsung with the white Galaxy S2, and now Motorola with the white DROID RAZR. Apple should be the one to blame for the craze; I see more white iPhones and iPads than black. Starting tomorrow Verizon customers will be able to pick up the Droid RAZR in white online and in stores.

Google announced today that they will acquire Motorola Mobility for a whopping $12.5 billion dollars, a strategic move that has huge benefits for the search engine giant and their Android mobile operating system. The announcement comes as a surprise to many mobile enthusiasts who never thought Google would make a serious move into the hardware side of the blossoming smartphone market. Sprint and Motorola are partnering up to bring 10 new devices to the market this year. At least half of the devices will be powered by Android and one of them is the XOOM tablet. This is obviously huge for both parties but really shows how serious Motorola is about getting back into the mobile spotlight. With AT&T buying T-Mobile (almost certain) and Verizon launching the iPhone, it’s time for Sprint to get aggressive. They have a fast 4G network that seems to be coming along nicely and a phone portfolio that is featuring the latest technology.

The Motorola Atrix 4G for AT&T just keeps popping up here on The Mobile Fanatics mainly because it seems to be able to accomplish so much. It’s not only a mobile phone, but can be converted into a media center and a laptop with the proper accessories. Similar to the media dock the laptop dock expands the capabilities of the Atrix 4G by giving the user a unique experience. Once connected the accessory takes over and the primary function of the mobile device changes. The laptop dock houses a 11.6″ screen, dual speakers, keyboard, trackpad, USB inputs, HDMI output, and 36Wh/3 cell battery that should theoretically allow for up to 8 hours of use. Much like the media dock you still retain the phone features but depending on the dock .....

While the Motorola Xoom was available for show and attracting huge crowds at the CES Motorola booth it wasn’t quite available for a hands-on. The product was always accompanied by a rep and never released to public hands. Regardless, Motorola did an excellent job of showing off the device and answering questions. The Motorola rep did comment that some aspects of Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) weren’t quite complete, maybe requiring them to keep a close handle on it. What makes the Xoom different from its competitors is that its a 10″ form factor rather than 7″ like the Blackberry Playbook or Dell Streak 7. Motorola Xoom specs:

The Atrix is without a doubt Motorola’s most innovative handset since the RAZR. Not only does it have an incredible set of hardware specifications, its capabilities beyond being a mobile phone are astounding. Motorola plans to have accessories that will launch with the device and expand the capabilities of the Atrix. The Mobile Fanatics had a chance to play around with the HD Multimedia Dock which turns the Atrix into a home PC replacement. The experience is fascinating. As you dock the device it immediately recognizes and initializes the HDMI port to output to the connected display. Since the dock has usb ports you are able to plug in a keyboard and mouse and use those as input devices. The menu system is similar to what you might see on .....
