We’re back with another side by side phone comparison! This time we have the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Nokia Lumia 800. This may seem like an odd pair to compare, but my followers on Twitter are fanatical about phones and mentioned they’d love to see these photos. Before we get started, I’d first like to mention the screen size difference. The Galaxy Nexus has a 4.65-inch screen, and the Lumia 800 checks in at 3.7-inches. This is why you’ll see such a big difference in the overall size of the phones. Availability Galaxy Nexus for Verizon is available at Amazon.com for $99. The Nokia Lumia 800 is available for $499 at Amazon (US unlocked) or free at Carphone Warehouse (Europe w/ contract). Now for the photos! Enjoy the gallery .....

Photos: Nokia Lumia 800 black — up close and personal

I just wrapped up my Nokia Lumia 710 review, and right now I’m using the Nokia Lumia 800 as my main phone. At the same time, I’m fiddling with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in preparation for that review. So as you can tell… my hands are full. But really this isn’t a complaint, more like a mobile fanatics dream come true! There will be plenty of side by side galleries coming up, but for now take a look at some of these standalone closeup shots I took of the Nokia Lumia 800.

Symbian: Nokia Drop updated to support Belle and brings new features

Symbian: Nokia Drop updated to support Belle and brings new features

One of my favorite Symbian apps for the Nokia N8 is Nokia Drop. This application uses a plugin for Chrome or Firefox that allows you to instantly push images, URLs, map views, RSS feeds, and more – straight from your computers browser to your phone. Today the application has been updated to support Symbian Belle firmware, and a few other changes are included. Have a look at the changelog: automatic update silent installation new first-time-use tutorial Store & Forward Store & Forward is a feature I’ve wanted to see in this application since it was released. Sometimes your phone isn’t connected to the Nokia Drop service or it’s out of range of a data connection. Before you’d be screwed and had no way of getting the content pushed. Now, with .....

Review: Nokia Lumia 710 for T-Mobile

by Mike Macias 02.16.2012
Nokia Lumia 710 Review

The Nokia Lumia 710 is the first North American release in Nokia’s new Windows Phone lineup. It was made available a few weeks ago on the T-Mobile network with the low price of $49.99 with a 2-year contract and mail-in rebates. That price (soon to be free) places this device in the low-end of the smartphone market, as Nokia hopes to grab first-time smartphone users and people looking for a smartphone at a decent price. In this Nokia Lumia 710 review I’ll go over the the hardware, touch on the software, camera, and give my thoughts on this device from the standpoint of a longtime Nokia fan. I may come off as a bit harsh at times, but right now I feel Nokia has a lot to prove to US .....

How to update your Symbian phone to Nokia Belle and check rollout status

by Mike Macias 02.08.2012
Nokia Belle N8 E7

Yesterday morning, Nokia started pushing their highly anticipated Belle update to Symbian phones. It’s a known fact that many Symbian users rarely update their phones to the latest firmware version. While it does seem like a weird statistic, I recently heard from a Nokia representive that under 20% of Symbian phones compatible with the “Anna” firmware were actually updated. I’m sure a lot of it has to do with users just not checking websites like this for updates or rarely plugging their phones into the computer. For those that need some help or simple tips for updating, this article is for you. This video posted by the Nokia Support Team should be all that you need. Have a look… If that doesn’t help you out, take a look at some .....

Finally: Belle firmware officially released for Nokia N8, E7, E6, recent Symbian phones

by Mike Macias 02.07.2012
Nokia Belle Official Update

All I can say is… it has taken long enough. Just as I mentioned last week, Nokia Belle for is finally ready for Symbian devices released in the past few years, including the Nokia N8, E7, E6, X7, C6-01, and C7. Nokia 500 users will get the Bell update in the coming weeks. The Nokia N8 price has recently dropped to $335 on Amazon.com, so this update couldn’t come at a better time. I got a chance to try Nokia Belle firmware a few times and while it’s impressive, it might be too late for many Symbian fans. By this time many have moved on to Android or Windows Phone, not wanting to go through this eternal wait Nokia put their customers through. I expected Belle to be quietly released .....

Nokia E7 and N8 now shipping with Belle firmware, current owners get ready to update

by Mike Macias 01.28.2012
Nokia N8 belle shipping

Update: Belle for Nokia E7, N8, C7, E6, now official. Click here to learn more. Last week we received a comment on the article I wrote in December about Symbian Belle on the Nokia E7. Mobile Fanatics reader gilbert  recently purchased a Nokia E7 and sure enough Belle was preinstalled on his device, straight from the store. I contacted gilbert by email and he has shown me proof of his E7 running Belle. Right now I’m working on getting screenshots of the firmware version. The news about Nokia phones now shipping with Belle was also confirmed by a Nokia twitter account. Kevin Everett from Nokia Innovation spotted an article posted by GSM Arena highlighting the tweet by @nokia: I’m not sure if that includes the Nokia N8 sold by Amazon, but right .....

Priced to sell: The Nokia Lumia 900 will debut on AT&T in March for $99.99, according to BGR

by Mike Macias 01.26.2012
the nokia lumia 900 cyan

According to the tech blog Boy Genius Report, a leaked AT&T roadmap shows the Nokia Lumia 900 arriving on AT&T in March for $99.99 with a 2-year contract. The specs of the Lumia 900 place it in the high-end of the Windows Phone lineup, and the speed and performance is comparable to top Android phones, depending on who you ask. While this information hasn’t been confirmed by AT&T, this is something I was hoping for. It’s all too often that a high-end phone debuts at $199.99, which in my opinion, is way too much for any phone if you’re signing 2 years of your life away with an unbreakable contract. This will be a huge win for Nokia if it turns out you can get this device for a hundred bucks. Let’s quickly recap .....

Report: Nokia Lumia 900 coming to the UK, not so exclusive to US

by Mike Macias 01.25.2012
Nokia Lumia 900 coming to the UK

During the Consumer Electronics Show a few weeks ago, Nokia unleashed the Lumia 900 for AT&T and touted its US exclusivity. We all knew the 900 would eventually ship around the world, but I didn’t expect the news to come this quickly. The folks over at WPCentral.com received a reader tip that Carphone Warehouse, a top phone retailer in the UK, briefly published a pre-register page for the Lumia 900. The page has since been removed, but the image below verifies the claim. http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/news/coming-soon/nokia-lumia-900 The Lumia 900 should drop this March on AT&T in the US, and according to Carphone Warehouse we can expect it to land on UK shores in June. A three month difference is significant, and I wonder how reluctant savvy European phone shoppers will be to consider this device .....

Windows Phone update 8107 rolling out for Nokia Lumia 800 and 710; fixes disappearing keyboard bug

by Mike Macias 01.18.2012
Nokia Lumia 800 colors

If you own a Nokia Lumia series smartphone, or any Windows Phone device, you might have noticed a case of the disappearing keyboard. Right now I’m using the Lumia 710 and I’ve seen it happen a few times. It’s not a major issue because it’s not a constant problem, but it can be annoying when it happens at the worst possible time. Reports are coming in that Microsoft is pushing out an update for the Nokia Lumia 800 to address the keyboard bug and a few other fixes. Rafe Blanford from All About Windows Phone reports: The roll out of the 8107 software update for Windows Phone has now begun for Nokia Lumia devices. SIM-free devices should be the first to get the update, with operator branded devices following in .....
