Nokia Lumia 900 official — available on AT&T in ‘the coming months’

by Mike Macias 01.09.2012
Nokia Lumia 900 Black

Just a few minutes ago here at CES, Nokia announced their news Windows Phone coming to AT&T sometime this Spring. The Nokia Lumia 900 for AT&T will be 4G LTE capable and is powered by a GHz processor. The Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) operating system runs very fast with a GHz processor so speed won’t be an issue. I’ve had my hands on the Nokia Lumia 710 for the past 24 hours and I’m surprised at how fast things run on the same processor found in the Lumia 900. Let’s take a look at some more detailed specs of this newly announced device, starting with the camera.

My love affair with Nokia and Las Vegas continues this week at CES

by Mike Macias 01.07.2012
CES coverage Nokia

You might remember I went to Vegas last year for an event that Nokia put together called #NokiaUnfenced. A handful of mobile industry enthusiasts (aka mobile fanatics) were invited and we got to get our hands on the Nokia C7 for T-Mobile. This time around Nokia invited some mobile journalists and bloggers from the US to be their guests at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Something big is supposed to be announced tomorrow by Nokia and Microsoft, my guess is the Nokia 900 Windows Phone for AT&T.

Nokia N9: How to add favorite contacts to app menu shortcuts

Nokia N9: How to add favorite contacts to app menu shortcuts

One of the biggest issues I had with the Nokia N9 was the lack of contact shortcuts. Since the N9 doesn’t have a standard homescreen setup like Symbian and Android, there was really no place in the OS to put favorite contacts besides at the top of the contacts app. I’ve suggested to Nokia that they allow favorite contacts within the quick launcher that pops up when you slide from the button for 2 seconds, but it never happened. Luckily a developer has created another solution that lets you add a favorite contact shortcut to the menu like it’s an app icon. The application for the Nokia N9 is called contactLaunch.

Nokia’s Stephen Elop: “As long as I am the CEO the headquarters is in Espoo”

by Mike Macias 12.18.2011
Elop:

Finns – worry no more. I know it was a tragedy for you guys when Stephen Elop took over as head of Nokia, and even worse when he announced they would partner with Microsoft. But rest assured, he won’t be moving the headquarters away from Finland. In an interview with TV broadcaster YLE, Elop said: “As long as I am the CEO the headquarters is in Espoo. That’s our home, our sense of belonging.” With Symbian taking a backseat on Nokia’s top smartphones, many fans wondered if Nokia would lose their pride and prestige throughout the world. Many rumors circulated that Nokia would be moving headquarters to the Silicone Valley, California. While their main North American office is in the Sunnyvale, California – the top dogs still make decisions from .....

Symbian Belle seen running on the Nokia E7

Update: Belle for Nokia E7, N8, C7, E6, now official. Click here to learn more. We’ve seen Symbian Belle leaks for the Nokia N8, but nothing for the Nokia E7… until now. A video demo and update instructions have been posted on the web showcasing a leaked version of Nokia’s latest firmware for Symbian devices. I’ve been rather interested in seeing Belle run on the E7 as I think it would be a great user experience. Sadly this video doesn’t show much if the UX, but it’s proof that things are running.

Video Review: Twitter app for the Nokia N9 after the PR1.1 update

by Mike Macias 12.12.2011
Twitter on the Nokia N9

The Nokia N9 was recently updated to version PR1.1 and with it came a fast improvement in speed and stability of built-in applications. Twitter is one of the apps that I noticed big improvements in; things just run a lot faster now. Before the update this app wasn’t very responsive. When touching the reply button the app would take a few seconds to switch over, it wasn’t immediate. I ended up using TwimGo as my main Twitter app, but with the latest firmware update on the N9 I went back to the preinstalled Twitter app. Here’s a video I created to show you how Twitter runs on the N9 after PR1.1…
