Symbian App Review: Dropian – a Dropbox app for Nokia S60v3 smartphones

If you’re reading this blog, I’m sure you’re aware that Dropbox is an excellent cloud-based, cross-platform, user-friendly file syncing/sharing/backup service that has become hugely popular in the past couple of years. I use Dropbox rather frequently to transfer files across computers and devices wirelessly; it’s just much less of a hassle to upload something onto Dropbox and have it synced down and available for online download compared to using an old-fashioned USB flash drive to transfer files.

Symbian App Review: One Contact adds one-touch text/call buttons to a contact on your homescreen

Thumbnail image for Symbian App Review: One Contact adds one-touch text/call buttons to a contact on your homescreen

A few weeks back I discovered a homescreen widget in the Ovi Store called One Contact. After testing it extensively on my Nokia N8 and E7 I’d like to say that it works great and does the job. Useful tools such as this are becoming more prevalent in the Ovi Store but unfortunately they aren’t getting much attention. With the Symbian Belle release right around the corner I’d say it’s time to showcase some of these useful Symbian applications.

Steinheil Ultra Clear screen protector review

by Timi Cantisano 08.30.2011
Thumbnail image for Steinheil Ultra Clear screen protector review

Often when purchasing a new mobile device one of the first accessories I seem to purchase is a screen protector. Although my past two devices were blessed with Corning’s Gorilla Glass I still found it necessary to protect it from those fine hairline scratches that for some reason always manage to appear mysteriously. I usually try to stick to a couple brands that I have been using for a couple years and this time was no different. Upon purchasing my Samsung Galaxy S2 I also purchased a screen protector from Clarivue. While I love the quality of the protector I really didn’t like the fit. The size of the protector was a tad bit too small, the cut outs were not flush and the bottom portion had two tabs that .....

Nokia E6: Day 14

by Alvin Wong 08.23.2011
Thumbnail image for Nokia E6: Day 14

It’s been 12 days since I last blogged about the Nokia E6, and it is time to say goodbye to this Symbian device. And in case you’re pressed for time, here’s the crux of my review: The Nokia E6 might not be for everyone, but it’s an excellent Symbian device, one of the best QWERTY monoblock form-factor devices, and a smartphone I’d definitely recommend to anyone with good eyesight who’s looking for an alternative to a BlackBerry or an upgrade from the E72, E71 or even the E5 and E63.

Farewell Nokia E6 – a stunning photo gallery

by Mike Macias 08.18.2011

The Nokia E6 had its shortcomings but overall was a solid device for getting work done. Not to mention the great camera, stable software, and awesome build quality. I had to send the Nokia E6 back to WomWorld/Nokia yesterday so my time with it is over. Is it a device I’d recommend? Absolutely. Especially for people that need a keyboard and a good camera. The screen size was the biggest gripe I had but that’s something that you have to overlook if you want this style device. The fact that you can get some awesome E6 deals on eBay and Amazon for under $379 unlocked makes it a bargain. Especially considering that it’s pentaband and can work all over the world.

Android Game Review: apzOrb

by David Gilson 08.17.2011
Thumbnail image for Android Game Review: apzOrb

apzOrb is a new game for Android. Despite having significant differences I can’t help but think of the classic Snake game genre. You’re in control of a creature that is composed of groups of swirling cubes. Its only aim in life is to consume more and more blocks and survive as long as possible. Sounds fun, but read on to see whether it has long term appeal!

Nokia E6: Day 2

I’ve been using the Nokia E6 for a couple of days now, and I love it so far. In fact, I love this device so much that I’m writing this post on the E6 itself using QuickOffice. In fact, it’s shaping up to be the second Symbian^3 Nokia device I can confidently recommend after the N8.

Android Game Review: Cut the Rope

by David Gilson 08.07.2011
Thumbnail image for Android Game Review: Cut the Rope

You might think physics is boring, but wait just a minute. Did you enjoy games like Worms and Angry Birds when you first played them? Well then, you actually love physics. A popular iOS game which found its way to Android, Cut the Rope, is yet another physics based game, with hilariously cute graphics. To play this one you’re going to have to brains and quick reactions. Cut the Rope is an adorably illustrated puzzle game. The very first screen when you start playing the game is a cartoon style scene inside a house, of an open front door with a box containing an abandoned creature, with instructions to feed with candy. That creature turns out to be a little green guy called “Om Nom” (full marks for plugging into .....

Nokia E6 Review: Hardware

by Mike Macias 07.29.2011
Thumbnail image for Nokia E6 Review: Hardware

I’ve had my hands on the Nokia E6 for about 3 week now and I’d like to share with you my thoughts on the hardware. I have some positives and negatives to talk about, along with a few things I’m still unsure of. Some of the topics I’ll discuss include the screen, build quality, keyboard, and battery life of the Nokia E6.

The Nokia E7: I want my E5 back please…

by Alvin Wong 07.21.2011
Thumbnail image for The Nokia E7: I want my E5 back please…

Trust me, I really, really wanted to fall in love with the E7. Back when it was launched, I’ve read numerous rather mixed reviews by esteemed, experienced mobile bloggers and smartphone geeks pointing out its flaws, and talking about how this device completely fails to meet their expectations. I have never used an E90 Communicator or any Series 80 device that came before it, nor have I been really hooked on Android, iOS or competing platforms, so I felt that my view of this N97-style side-sliding 4-inch Symbian smartphone would perhaps be different. I really wanted to love the E7, but honestly it’s been more like an early infatuation for me before the rest of the relationship turned out complicated.

The first part of my Nokia E6 review is halfway done and discusses my thoughts on the hardware. Since I’m taking awhile to completely lay out that article, I’d like to kick things off with some photos I took with the Nokia E6 so you can get a sense of the camera quality.
