Photos: Samsung Galaxy Nexus vs. Nokia Lumia 800

We’re back with another side by side phone comparison! This time we have the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Nokia Lumia 800. This may seem like an odd pair to compare, but my followers on Twitter are fanatical about phones and mentioned they’d love to see these photos. Before we get started, I’d first like to mention the screen size difference. The Galaxy Nexus has a 4.65-inch screen, and the Lumia 800 checks in at 3.7-inches. This is why you’ll see such a big difference in the overall size of the phones. Availability Galaxy Nexus for Verizon is available at Amazon.com for $99. The Nokia Lumia 800 is available for $499 at Amazon (US unlocked) or free at Carphone Warehouse (Europe w/ contract). Now for the photos! Enjoy the gallery .....

Photos: Nokia Lumia 800 black — up close and personal

I just wrapped up my Nokia Lumia 710 review, and right now I’m using the Nokia Lumia 800 as my main phone. At the same time, I’m fiddling with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in preparation for that review. So as you can tell… my hands are full. But really this isn’t a complaint, more like a mobile fanatics dream come true! There will be plenty of side by side galleries coming up, but for now take a look at some of these standalone closeup shots I took of the Nokia Lumia 800.

Review: Nokia Lumia 710 for T-Mobile

by Mike Macias 02.16.2012
Nokia Lumia 710 Review

The Nokia Lumia 710 is the first North American release in Nokia’s new Windows Phone lineup. It was made available a few weeks ago on the T-Mobile network with the low price of $49.99 with a 2-year contract and mail-in rebates. That price (soon to be free) places this device in the low-end of the smartphone market, as Nokia hopes to grab first-time smartphone users and people looking for a smartphone at a decent price. In this Nokia Lumia 710 review I’ll go over the the hardware, touch on the software, camera, and give my thoughts on this device from the standpoint of a longtime Nokia fan. I may come off as a bit harsh at times, but right now I feel Nokia has a lot to prove to US .....

Nokia Lumia 800: The Full Review

by Alvin Wong 01.17.2012
Nokia Lumia 800 review

The Nokia Lumia 800 will go down in history as one of the most important Nokia devices ever. The first product of the controversial Nokia – Microsoft partnership, the Lumia 800 unabashedly symbolizes the new Nokia, a maker of smartphones running Windows Phone 7. I considered the Nokia N9 the last real Nokia flagship smartphone; the Lumia 800 is the newest Nokia flagship outside the USA and in this review I’m going to tell you all about it.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro: 4 months on

by Alvin Wong 01.03.2012
Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro

Just 4 months ago, I decided it was time for me to jump on the Android bandwagon and picked up a Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro, writing a really extensive review on it for this site as I discovered everything that Android had to offer. It’s been my daily driver ever since I bought it, and today I’m going to present a long-term review of this device, telling you how it is like to actually own and use over an extended period of time instead of the usual rundown after a 2-week blast.

Hands-on Photos: Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch for Sprint

by Mike Macias 01.02.2012
The 8 megapixel camera takes great photos as long as the lighting is good

Last week I got my hands on the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G. It’s a Sprint phone – actually right now it’s the top Sprint phone that runs Android. The best deal on the SGS2 that I’ve found is below $100 at Amazon.com, this device is selling extremely well and is hugely popular in the Android community. Despite a fresh lineup of Android phones in the pipeline, the Galaxy S2 has the power and design to be a top device in 2012. To kick off this Galaxy S2 review, I’ll leave you with some nice hands-on photos of the phone. In the coming days I’ll have plenty more to say about it and even more hands-on photos comparing it to other top devices.

Video Review: We put the Nokia N9 through a multitasking torture test

by Mike Macias 12.07.2011
Multitasking on the Nokia N9

What phone is best at multitasking? Look no further than the Nokia N9 and MeeGo Harmattan experience. Here you have true multitasking, with apps running in the background if needed in an easily controlled environment. When viewing the multitasking panel you see open applications in live tiles – either 3×3 or 2×2. Yes… I said live tiles. If I’m running a timer in the background you can see the numbers counting up or down (demoed in the video). If I get a new tweet or email I can see that the app has been updated. It’s easier to see things on the tiles when you have the multitasking panel running at 2×2 – you only see four apps. But when you have a large number apps open you want to .....

Nokia N9 Review: Conclusions

by Alvin Wong 12.05.2011
Nokia N9 review

This is the 3rd part of Alvin’s Nokia N9 review. It was a quiet and rainy night. I looked at the black Nokia N9, surveying its perfect form and the jet black display. It was time to do the deed. Our time was up. The N9 would go away and never come back. Although we’d had our arguments, trials and tribulations, I knew I’d miss it. Although it wasn’t anywhere near perfect (I’d been extremely annoyed with its spotty display and swore I’d forever think thrice about getting a phone with such a display), I knew I’d enjoyed my time with it immensely. I picked it up and navigated to the factory reset screen in the settings. This is it, I thought to myself. I hit the reset and the display .....

Nokia N9 Review: Software

by Alvin Wong 11.30.2011
Nokia N9 Software Review

This is the 2nd part of Alvin’s Nokia N9 review. So far, we’ve looked at the Nokia N9 purely in terms of hardware, but arguably more important than the gorgeous curved screen is what runs beneath it – MeeGo Harmattan 1.2. A platform that was supposed to replace Symbian and save the company has now been relegated to dead-on-arrival status to serve as a pure demonstration of what Nokia is capable of in terms of software development and innovation. Even so, there is a lot to like about MeeGo Harmattan, yet almost as much to dislike about it.

My best photos taken with the Nokia N9

by Mike Macias 11.28.2011
Nokia N9 camera samples

I’ve taken a few hundred photos with the Nokia N9 to make sure I get the full experience out of the camera. Most came out good, a few bad, and a handful were great. To keep track of some of these photos, I uploaded them to a Flickr set called “Photos by N9“. These photos were also shared on my social media accounts. I’ve gotten much feedback on them by my followers on Twitter throughout the weeks and now I’m sharing my favorites with you here at The Mobile Fanatics. Let me first mention a few things about the Nokia N9 camera. It has 8 megapixels and a Carl Zeiss lens. It can take full-resolution shots in either 16:9 or 4:3 ratio. The camera UI is fantastic, but sadly it .....
