Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro: 4 months on

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro

Just 4 months ago, I decided it was time for me to jump on the Android bandwagon and picked up a Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro, writing a really extensive review on it for this site as I discovered everything that Android had to offer. It’s been my daily driver ever since I bought it, and today I’m going to present a long-term review of this device, telling you how it is like to actually own and use over an extended period of time instead of the usual rundown after a 2-week blast.

Accessory Review: Sony Ericsson MW600 Stereo Bluetooth Headset

by Alvin Wong 12.09.2011
MW600 Review

Last week I decided I would head out and purchase a new pair of earphones; I’ve been depending on the pair that came with my Xperia Mini Pro all this while and I decided it was time for something better. But rather than pick up yet another pair of wired earphones, I thought it’d be cool to pick up a pair of Bluetooth earphones instead. I was particularly attracted by the idea of no longer having to make sure my earphones didn’t catch on anything or anyone, especially in crowded places and on the train, and how I’d no longer fear bending or disconnecting my earphone plug when trying to retrieve my phone from the pocket of my jeans. I’m sure we’ve all experienced the unpleasant feeling of having earphones .....

This is Part 5 of Alvin’s Xperia Mini Pro Review. Shop: Find deals on the Xperia Mini Pro starting at $159 on Amazon.com. So I’ve been using (and reviewing) my Xperia Mini Pro for slightly more than 3 weeks now, and it’s finally time to critique its imaging capabilities and attach a fitting conclusion to this entire review series. If you liked how detailed the battery life report was, you’ll love the rest of this article. In 3 weeks, I’ve taken this little smartphone on 4 photoshoots, capturing images in as many conditions as is possible in my part of the world and forming an opinion on the and the usability of its hardware as well as the camera-focused apps.

Xperia Mini Pro – Day 17: The battery life report (and miscellaneous hardware foibles)

Thumbnail image for Xperia Mini Pro – Day 17: The battery life report (and miscellaneous hardware foibles)

This is Part 4 of Alvin’s Xperia Mini Pro Review. Shop: Find deals on the Xperia Mini Pro starting at $159 on Amazon.com. Battery life has never really been all that fantastic on an Android smartphone, right from the beginning with the HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1). If I’m honest, it’s really no surprise because it’s really all down to how Android works. By default, Android maintains a constant data connection either via WiFi (when available) or by cellular data. While WiFi does not deplete a smartphone’s battery to any substantial extent these days, that constant data connection maintained by your device so that it can constantly talk to the social networks and cloud services you use when you’re out and about with your smartphone really takes a toll on the .....

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro Review: Day 5

by Alvin Wong 09.09.2011
Thumbnail image for Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro Review: Day 5

This is Part 1 of Alvin’s Xperia Mini Pro Review. 5 days ago, I finally bit the bullet. In one of my previous posts, entitled ‘The future of Symbian in my life’, I discussed the notion of finally moving on from Symbian to the Android platform with a newly-launched Sony Ericsson smartphone, the Xperia Mini Pro. I was growing increasingly dissatisfied with Symbian; it felt positively ancient and left behind such that it didn’t really feel like a smartphone anymore, and I couldn’t find even a single decent free Twitter client on the Ovi Store, much less clients for the cloud services like Evernote and Google Reader that I was becoming increasingly reliant on. There was no chance of free reliable cloud syncing on the platform, I felt there were .....

Thumbnail image for Sony starts pre-order for Playstation certified Android Tablet S and Tablet P

Sony has started pre-orders for its Playstation certified tablets, the Tablet S and Tablet P. While both tablets have an interesting design its the Tablet P that’ll be the real head turner with its dual 5.5″ screens.  Although the design is similar to the Kyocera Echo Sony is banking on its Playstation certified device to generate larger success in this unique niche market. Both tablets will have full support from Sony’s services including Music and Video Unlimited, eBooks via the Reader Store, and access to Playstation titles. Detailed specifications for each device are below with the Tablet P CPU information being noticeably absent we can assume that it will have the same dual-core 1Ghz Tegra 2 as the Tablet S. The Tablet S will come in a 16GB ($499.99) and .....

Sony Ericsson launches dock for Xperia PLAY

by Timi Cantisano 04.01.2011
Thumbnail image for Sony Ericsson launches dock for Xperia PLAY

With Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play launching in Europe in the coming weeks, the world’s first dedicated Android gaming device is finally bringing something new to the mobile world. While the Xperia Play is an exciting device alone it wouldn’t be complete without a media dock. Luckily, Sony Ericsson has created the DK300 and will release it in both black and white. While we have seen docks that take devices to another level, the DK300 is nothing new or exciting. The main features of the DK300 will be charging, audio output, and media application (alarm clock, picture gallery, etc) that will open when connected. While its better than nothing I would’ve loved to see Sony take a different approach. Mainly adding the ability to have a big screen gaming experience via .....

Mobile World Congress Day 1 Round Up: Sony Ericsson

Thumbnail image for Mobile World Congress Day 1 Round Up: Sony Ericsson

Today started possibly one of the most exciting weeks for any mobile enthusiast thanks to Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The yearly mobile device expo is where manufacturers unveil some of their most impressive work and this year is no different. Sony Ericsson’s rather lackluster line-up for the past couple years has finally improved. This year they present the world with a vast array of unique devices. It seems like there is something for everyone. Probably one of the more unique handsets to be announced is the Xperia PLAY. This handset combines a great phone with console quality gaming controls. The gaming platform will be supported by some of the biggest companies (Sony Computer Entertainment, Digital Chocolate, Digital Legends, Electronic Arts, Fishlabs, Gamehouse, Gameloft, Glu Mobile, Handy Games, Namco Bandai Networks, Polarbit, PopCap, Trendy Entertainment,Unity Tecnologies) which will help the Xperia PLAY become .....

Sony Ericsson Xperia arc hands-on video and photos

by Timi Cantisano 01.10.2011
Thumbnail image for Sony Ericsson Xperia arc hands-on video and photos

Possibly one of the thinnest and lightest devices I experienced at CES was the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc. Measuring only 8.7mm at its thinnest point and being touted as the ultimate multimedia smartphone! Sony realized that if it was putting such a title on a device it had to come strong with innovative technology, and what better place to look than its own backyard. Taking its popular Bravia Engine which can be found on most of its TV’s and integrating into the 4.2″ Reality display, Sony is able to give users a better viewing experience with the Mobile Bravia Engine by reducing motion blur, delivering better contrast ratio, and higher detail. While it’s something that has to be viewed in person I can attest that the display is crisp, bright, .....
