Anyone know if there is a utility to find a lost or stolen Nokia S60v3? I found this post on LifeHacker: http://lifehacker.com/5611003/…..or-android — last year I lost my first E71 after it fell out of my pocket while on my bike. Probably could have tracked it down if it had the ability to send it's GPS coordinates.

I have Google Maps / Latitude installed but don't like to leave it running all the time as it kills the battery. I really like the functionality described in LifeHacker — send the phone an SMS and it reports it's GPS coordinates back to you — way cool.

There are a few options, and here is won that I can remember off-hand.

I've tested it out before and it works great.

Phone Guardian:

Phone Guardian is a mobile security anti thief software for your Series 60.3/60.5 Symbian smartphones.

In case your mobile is forgotten or stolen, Phone Guardian will allow you to remotely secure and auto lock your Symbian mobile by sending a lock SMS.

Once locked the phone remains secured. It will not be possible for the thief to use your phone or to uninstall the Phone Guardian software. Mobile can only be unlocked by sending an unlock SMS with a password.

Phone Guardian sends automatically a secure SMS, where information that allows you to catch the thief is included. Armed with Phone Guardian, your smartphone will be secure as in safe!

Does that look like what you're looking for?

that looks like it will do the trick — I will give it a test and post my comments — thanks Mike.

Well, tried Phone Guardian. It seems to have a load of promise, but so far, my testing has not been successful. I have tried sending test SMS messages to my phone, I receive the SMS, but the application doesn't activate.

to lock, send the command in the format :l:(mypassword) — substituting (mypassword with the real one) — the text shows up but no go. Tried changing the password a few times but no joy. No support on their website that I can find. Will keep poking around as this app looks promising.

hmmm, that's not good. I'll point the developers to your post.

At the same time another person came up with something that looks interesting. On our @e71fanatics twitter account I posted your question and here is a response I got:

http://periodic.phonelocator.mobi/

Phonelocator periodic is a free service to help you keep tabs on the location of your phone. It runs in the background and can periodically update the phone's location to the Phonelocator server. Updates can also be triggered remotely by sending a text message to the phone that starts with the word 'Update'. You can also nominate a friend to receive a 'buddy message' when the SIM card in your phone is changed. If your phone is stolen and the SIM card is changed, your buddy should receive a text messaged containing the thief's telephone number.

Phonelocator periodic is not intended to be a real time tracker! It's designed to be run all the time and periodically update the phone's location without a noticeable effect on the phone's battery life.

let me know how that works out and I'll give it a shot too!

I found and tried Easy Locator:
http://melonmobile.com/Product…..rview.aspx

Works fine, but I was wondering if there was any free app like Phonelocator available. Phonelocator itself doesn't seem to work for me.

What I'm looking for in the app is: responds to specific sms with gps location of the phone. Or if no gps signal available, it responds with the location based on cell towers. No updating, no connections to internet, just response to sms with location. Optionally an autostart function.

Know any others than the ones suggested?
