My Nokia Lumia 920 just received a notification to update the Windows Phone 8 software. At the same time, Nokia posted on their official blog the details of this update and how to get it.
First things first — you want to get the update. If your phone didn’t notify you then simply go to Settings > Phone Update > Check for Updates > and proceed. You must be connected to a WiFi connection to download and install the update. This firmware update for the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 is over-the-air (OTA) so you won’t need to connect to a computer. The whole process shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes if everything goes smoothly. Be sure to have a full battery or near-full. Mine was about 75% and I didn’t have any issues.
According to Nokia, the following changes have been made in this latest firmware update:
Today’s update brings the following enhancements to the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820:
- Enhancements in Messaging
- More efficient and reliable Bluetooth connectivity
- More efficient and reliable start-up sequence
- Enhancements in imaging performance and battery management
- Additional platform updates and enhancements
Interesting that the camera improvements were not
mentioned detailed. The folks at WPCentral did a good comparison of photos with the old firmware and the new firmware on the Nokia Lumia 920. It’s obvious that changes have been made for daytime photos being too soft. I’m guessing that Nokia will detail that in another blog post.
Stay tuned for more coverage on the first firmware update for these Nokia Lumia devices.
