One of the biggest issues I had with the Nokia N9 was the lack of contact shortcuts. Since the N9 doesn’t have a standard homescreen setup like Symbian and Android, there was really no place in the OS to put favorite contacts besides at the top of the contacts app. I’ve suggested to Nokia that they allow favorite contacts within the quick launcher that pops up when you slide from the button for 2 seconds, but it never happened. Luckily a developer has created another solution that lets you add a favorite contact shortcut to the menu like it’s an app icon. The application for the Nokia N9 is called contactLaunch.
How it works: When you tap the person’s face (shortcut) you’ll be taken to their contact card.

In the latest version the developer has converted the square blocks into a rounded design, making the contact shortcuts the same style as the apps. Nokia calls these icons “squircles”.
It’s a very simple idea and gets the job done. I’d still like to allow users to add contacts to the quick launcher for even faster access from any screen. Maybe a developer – or this developer – will add this functionality.
You can download contactLaunch from the Nokia Store for 99 cents.
