It can be argued that the Nokia Lumia 920 does not need a case. Well, if you drop it onto jagged concrete from your hands, this can happen. Which is why I decided to shop around for a very minimal back cover that can add some grip to my slippery Nokia Lumia 920.
Product: Nokia Lumia 920 Rubberized Back Cover Hard Case by Terrapin
In searching for the perfect case for my elegant 920 I wanted something thin and preferably rubberized. I don’t need a big and bulky case to cover every inch of my phone — that’s just unnecessary especially for the Nokia Lumia design. I eventually found the cover you see above and so far it’s worked out great. Check out my video review of the case below…
So as you can see, I’m a fan. Minimal? Check. Adds grip? Check. Still looks like a 920? Check.
As one of the comments mentioned on Youtube, at first glance you don’t notice the case. I’ve been using it for about 3 weeks and there are a few scuffs and marks, but nothing major. It does not protect the bottom or top of the phone, nor does it the curved glass screen.
The neglect for protecting the screen is actually another plus for this case. I still get the design appeal of the curved glass and it doesn’t get in the way. The clearance on the bottom and top leave absolutely no issues for the headphone jack, micro USB plug, and the SIM tray. I can’t stress how beautifully minimal this case is.
The sides allow for the buttons to be easily accessed. It does however change-up the feel and design of the buttons. Without the case on the Lumia 920 the buttons are protruding. When you put this case on the buttons are recessed. It doesn’t bother me too much and I’ve gotten used to it. No longer do I have to worry about snagging the buttons when taking the phone out of my pocket or a bag.
The camera has plenty of clearance and I haven’t noticed any issues with the flash being impeded. This case makes it so that the camera is not touching the surface when you put it down on the tablet.
Viewing the case when it’s not attached to the phone really shows how thin it is. I can bend it if I really tried, but otherwise it’s considered a hard case with a strong shell.
If you’re looking for minimal protection from short falls then this case is for you and I highly recommend it. If you need more protection because you’re paranoid it will get hit by a bus then the Otterbox for the Nokia Lumia 920 is a better option.
More Colors and Price
I haven’t mentioned the price. Amazon has it for $5.95 right now, which is a great deal considering most cases start around $10 for the soft covers. You can also get this 920 case in red, purple, and pink. I bought the purple version for my sister’s 920 and she’s pretty happy with it. Let me know if you need pictures of it in purple and I can add them to this review.
