Update: Belle for Nokia E7, N8, C7, E6, now official. Click here to learn more.
Nokia has been showing off the upcoming firmware for Symbian^3 devices called Anna, also known as PR2 to hardcore Symbian followers. Some don’t seem too impressed by the firmware saying it should have shipped with the N8 at launch last October. Well, all is not perfect in this world. If Anna doesn’t impress you, take a look at these screenshots I spotted of Belle. Symbian Belle is the next big firmware update after Anna. Symbian fanatics like myself would call Belle PR3 before Nokia introduced the new firmware naming scheme.
A tweak as simple as shrinking the status bar to make better use of horizontal space goes a long way in modernizing the UI. Everything is less crowded and icons can be a little bit bigger. I wonder what happens when the status bar is tapped. Seems to be a pull down menu similar to Android’s notification/status bar.
The toolbar icons in the screenshot to the right are prevalent in certain areas of Symbian^3 right now. You’ll find similar icons in the email app and camera app.
Big thanks to @gx_saurav for leading me to find these screenshots over at Forum Nokia.
