Themes with Symbian Belle, Anna icons for the Nokia E71 and S60v3 models Screenshot0040Nokia hasn’t given any indication of updating firmware on Symbian S60 models to include the new Symbian Anna icons. That’s unfortunate because there are still millions of S60v3 users out there who would love to show off this fresh look to their friends and colleagues. Luckily with the help of Symbian themers longtime E71, N86, and even N95 users can have Symbian Anna icons if they find the right theme.

Leave it to the fellas at All About Symbian to come up with something useful. They just published an article about Anna themes for S60v3 and showcased one called “Glows Symbian Anna”. Steve Litchfield says,

Publishers MMMOOO are perhaps the best place to start, since their themes are as official as you can get, being used in some of Nokia’s product materials. I made a beeline for ‘Glows Symbian Anna’, since it looked like it was dark enough to work well on my N86′s AMOLED screen and yet still have plenty of attractive colour to it.

Be sure to check out Steve’s article.

I decided to try out another theme by MMMOOO.This one is called Rays Symbian Anna. Take a look at some of the screenshots I took from my Nokia E71…

Looks pretty nice, doesn’t it? The Anna icons go along way in bringing a new look to an old device. I’m a sucker for blue themes so this one is a perfect addition to my favorite Symbian themes list. This theme with Anna icons also works for the N95, N96, N82, N79, N86, E72, E73, E5, E66, N97, 5800, and yes – even newer devices like the N8 and E7.

Download: You can download Rays Symbian Anna from the Ovi Store.

This article reminds me of something. I’ve been meaning to create a theme for Symbian devices and now I really want to get one done before I get my hands on the Nokia N9. Now might be a good time to get started!

Wow Mike, I see you’re still using the old, long-gone Beta Labs ‘Conversations’ app for threaded messaging on your E71 :P

Yep! It was a must-have app back in my E71 days. Still shocked that it took so long for Nokia to come up with it. I don’t even think it was fully compatible.

    Thanks a lot for this!

I just got across it and let me tell you, my E71 looks amazing again!

The only thing holding me back from the E6 is the relatively slow CPU and low RAM. On GSM Arena’s video demo, you see the phone lagging in some places!

I’ve used the E6 and it’s not too slow. The good thing about the E6 is it will have Symbian Belle firmware once it’s available which will completely change the UI and the way things work. I’m really looking forward to it.

I wonder if Belle is more resources-hungry than Anna. I really feel the E6 should have been given better hardware. It would have been a beastly phone.

The new BOLD 9900 has a 1.2 GHz CPU and 768 MB of RAM and a touchscreen.

Since Belle is based on Qt coding I think it will be less resource hungry then Anna, but not 100% on that. However, I agree I wish it had better specs. That phone had such huge potential to a beast as you say. I would’ve enjoyed a slightly larger screen as well.
